Layouts in Mavis Studio allow you to build a new source from multiple other sources.
Each Layout can combine up to four layers plus a background. This makes Layouts useful for picture-in-picture views, split screens, side-by-side interviews, presenter-and-graphic arrangements, and more designed composite shots.
To edit a Layout, tap the settings button on the Layout source and choose Edit Layout.
Inside the layout editor, each layer can be turned on or off and assigned a source from the video matrix. That means a Layout can use camera inputs, Media Players, Image Players, colour sources, Program, Preview, and other available sources. The background is also a source, so it can be set to something simple like a colour or to another source if needed.
Each active layer can be moved, resized, cropped, given a border, and placed in front of or behind other layers. This makes it possible to create both simple and highly custom arrangements. Built-in presets are also available to speed up common setups.
Layouts work particularly well with sources that include transparency. For example, a Layout might place two camera inputs side by side over a coloured background, then add a transparent image or graphic frame over the top.
Once created, a Layout becomes a source itself. It can be added to the multiview, cut to Program or Preview, or assigned elsewhere in the system.
If a Layout is live, Mavis Studio also shows tally on the sources being used inside that Layout. This makes it easier to see which elements are currently on air.
