Each audio channel in Mavis Studio includes Gain, Pan, and EQ controls. These appear when a channel is selected on the full audio desk.
Both Gain and Pan use rotary-style controls. Visually, they look like knobs. However, in Mavis Studio these controls are adjusted by dragging up and down, not by rotating them in a circle. This same up-and-down gesture is also used by similar controls elsewhere in the app, so once learned it becomes a consistent part of using Mavis Studio.
Gain
Gain is used to adjust the level of the selected channel.
The channel fader already controls the level of that channel, but the gain control provides additional adjustment when needed.
Double-tapping the gain control returns it to 0 dB.
Pan
Each channel in the mixer is mono, while the final output is stereo. This means each channel can be positioned to the left, right, or centre of the stereo mix.
Like Gain, the Pan control is shown as a rotary control but is adjusted by dragging up and down.
The C button returns pan to the centre position. Double-tapping also returns it to centre.
For stereo sources such as Media Players, left and right channels are already panned appropriately by default. Camera inputs may need to be adjusted depending on what is connected to them. For example, two microphones arriving on a stereo pair may need different treatment from a true left-right stereo source.
EQ
Each channel includes a four-band EQ, which allows the sound of that source to be shaped more precisely.
The EQ graph can be adjusted directly by dragging the control points and handles. This changes the frequency, level, and width of each EQ band.
This is useful for improving speech clarity, reducing unwanted hum, or shaping a source so it sits better in the mix.
The EQ controls are intended for setup and adjustment rather than constant live operation, which is why they are part of the full audio desk rather than the Home screen controls.
