Pro Camera works with a range of audio input and output devices. You can select from any of the internal iPhone microphones or if you can connect an input or output device via the Lightning connector, 3.5mm analog connector or bluetooth. Input connections via the Lightning connector can be either mono or stereo (this is detected automatically).
Pro Camera follows the standard iOS "last in wins" rule, where the last device plugged into the device (as either an input or output) is the dominant device. For example, if the last device you plugged into the iPhone was an external mic then Pro Camera will automatically choose this microphone as the input to the recorder. Similarly, if the last thing you connected to the iPhone was a pair of bluetooth headphones then Pro Camera will attempt to route the headphone monitoring output via bluetooth. However, this default selection can be overridden in the audio settings menu.
Selecting the audio input (requires In-App Purchase)
1) Tap on the Audio icon at the top right of the screen (icon may differ slightly due to audio devices connected)
2) Tap on the Audio Settings icon within the audio flyout menu
3) Tap on the relevant audio input from the INPUT section
4) Tap on the word Done at the top left of the screen
Setting the audio gain manually (when available)
Manual audio gain is available on some audio inputs, but it is device specific. If you are using an external input device, such as a microphone connected via the Lightning connector, contact the manufacture to find out whether the gain can be controlled manually using an iPhone.
1) Tap on the Audio icon at the top right of the screen (icon may differ slightly due to audio devices connected)
2) Tap on Manual gain from the flyout menu (if manual gain is not displayed Pro Camera is unable to control the gain of the microphone)
3) Slide the gain control left and right to set the gain
Using the Audio icon as a quick reference
The Audio icon changes depending on the current state of the audio engine. This provides a quick reference so you can understand what is happening with the audio. Below is a list of the various icons states and their meaning.
